Juno and I had been exploring trails for a few years before I set myself what felt like an unattainable achievement of a half marathon. After completing this I realised how much I enjoyed the atmosphere of running events but was disappointed I couldn't have Juno complete it with me; she'd done all the training too! So I set out to find dog-friendly running events.

About 400m in to our first 10k Juno decided it was toilet time. I picked it up and another woman said, “You don't want to be carrying that for 10k, give it here”. A woman I had never met before freely offered to carry my dog's crap for the next 9km in a special belt.
At the end of the run there was a bunch of women who had run with dogs and they were all so friendly. The community was so welcoming… I wanted in!

Chatting away at the end of events, the question was always the same. “Where do you find dog-friendly running events?”. There just wasn't a central place where they were all listed. With so many different event organisations it was confusing - Some companies only run canicross events and some run events that happen to be dog-friendly. Others run lots of events where some are dog-friendly and some aren't. Some directory websites have it as a filter and some don't. Some dog-friendly event lists exist but are really difficult to search.

With a background in communications and a problem to solve, I set about creating Running On Point; a trusted platform to discover canicross and dog-friendly running events. I thought long and hard about what criteria people want to search by and have built the platform to reflect this. Feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly paw-sitive which tells me I was on point with the functionality!
I've built it for the benefit of the community. As such, it needs to be shaped by feedback. If there is anything that doesn't work or anything that will make it better then please let me know.

Running On Point is made up of Laura and Juno. Juno is a GSP with a love of birdwatching, running, new adventures and the occasional nap in the sun. Laura is a Paramedic and Operational Commander with Yorkshire Ambulance Service who enjoys exactly the same things. We're both happiest spending time outdoors and spend our days responding to things at speed; Juno is just a bit more enthusiastic when squirrels are involved.
